Eep Opp Ork Ah-Ah from the Jetsons to The Pharcyde
I was listening to a mix the other day and heard a vamp that triggered a memory. I had to connect the dots so I did a little wiki research and came across some interesting content to share.
There was a Jetson’s episode where George and Judy Jetson went out to see Jet Screamer perform a song called “Eep Opp Ork Ah-Ah(That Means I Love You)”. A Date with Jet Screamer is the second episode of Season One of The Jetsons. It first aired September 30, 1962 on ABC.
I have a faint memory of The Pharcyde having a vamp of the “Eep Opp…” hook in the background of their album version of “Soul Flower(Remix)” on the Bizarre Ride II thePharcyde.
The original Brand New Heavies’ version from their Heavy Rhyme Experience: Vol. 1 is a bit different. I honestly don’t know how this album slipped to the back of my mind over the years. This album had several nice joints on it. Thankfully I was reminded of it while looking up The Pharcyde version.
This is one of those times when a little of something from your childhood pops up in an entirely different creation, like a hip-hop/jazz-funk collaboration track in the 90s, and then again in a mixcloud mix in the 2020’s.
We live in a time of shared experiences and memories. I’m sure millions of kids of the 60’s, 70s, and 80s remember Eep Opp Ork Ah-Ah and George Jetson setting it off on the drums in the begining of the song. I remember roaming through the house with “Eep Opp Ork…” in my head many of times over the years. I guess I wasn’t the only one because there it is slid into a remix production 30 years later in a fairly young genre called hip-hop.
In a rock music counternote, the Violent Femmes did a remake version for all the rock heads who have The Jetson in there memories.
